For over 15 years, I have dedicated myself to promoting sustainable travel in Seychelles, helping travelers make choices that respect the environment and local culture. However, today, I want to address an issue that goes beyond travel: protecting the last Coral Reef. Assumption Island!

This small island, located just 25 km from Aldabra, is home to one of the last pristine coral reefs in the world. Despite its ecological significance, a luxury resort project has been approved. Therefore, it is crucial for us to unite and stop this destruction.

Why is Assumption Island so important?

First and foremost, the island is a natural sanctuary. Its coral reef shelters unique marine and terrestrial species, some of which can only be found here. Additionally, its proximity to Aldabra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, makes its preservation even more critical.

However, the resort project threatens to jeopardize all of this. In fact, construction risks irreparably damaging the ecosystem, endangering the delicate balance that has existed for centuries.

Protests by Local Residents for Assumption Island

Recently, Seychellois citizens have protested against this decision. Indeed, hundreds marched in the capital, Victoria, demanding the project’s suspension. This highlights how deeply the local community values the preservation of its natural heritage.

Furthermore, local organizations like Seychelles At Heart are tirelessly working to raise awareness and halt this destruction. You can support their efforts by signing the petition.

A Global Call to Action for Assumption Island

We must remember that protecting Assumption Island is a responsibility shared by all of us. This ecosystem represents a common heritage for humanity. Moreover, preserving it ensures that future generations can continue to enjoy its unique beauty.

Therefore, I urge all of you, wherever you are, to join this fight. Educate yourself, share this story, and sign the petition. Every action matters.

Gratitude for the Champions of Our Future Protecting the last Coral Reef.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone fighting to protect Assumption Island. Their dedication not only saves an ecosystem but also exemplifies the power of collaboration for the greater good.

Together, we can make a difference and protect Assumption Island for future generations.
