How to move about the islands and by which means of transport

Tempo di lettura 3 minuti

Good morning,

today I will briefly explain how to move between and on the islands.

The Seychelles are 115 islands of which only 3 are inhabited: Mahe, Praslin and La Digue but some of these host resorts, for those who literally want to isolate themselves.

The scheduled flight arrives on the island of Mahè, there are many airlines that fly to the destination but the sooner you book the flight the less you will spend.

The French company Air France had launched the low cost Joon Airline with departure from Charles De Gaulle bound for the Seychelles but which unfortunately gave up after the pandemic. The national airline Ethiopian airline that makes a stopover in Addis Ababa flies frequently and also the Turkish airline, the best European airline, visits our islands weekly.

If you are a frequent flyer, you can fly with the Emirates airline best airline in the world, Qatar airline, Ethiad partner sharing with Air Seychelles.

How to move from one island to another

If we have to reach the island of Praslin we can:

  1. fly on Air Seychelles’ Twin otter domestic flight (20 minutes);
  2. ferry with Catcoco from the port of Mahe to the port of Praslin (1 hour);

Tip: if you already plan to fly with a domestic flight on Praslin, buy the ticket immediately when you book the route from your departure airport at least being a single booking in case of delay you are protected and you can fly with the next flight plus the baggage is shipped directly to Praslin.

If, on the other hand, we have to reach the island of La Digue we can

  1. ferry with Catcoco from Mahe (1 hour and 10) the direct
  2. ferry with Cat Rose from Praslin (15 minutes)

So if there is no direct ferry Mahè – La Digue we should make a stop on Praslin

How to get around the islands

Mahè Island

The best way to get around the island of Mahè (28 km long and 8 km wide) which brings together 90% of the population (about 78,000 inhabitants) is that of:

  1. rent a car, there are various sizes you can choose but I recommend renting a small car as the roads are narrow sometimes overlooking the ocean and the drive is on the left (an example of a small car the Kia Picanto or Hyunday i10);
  2. move by bus, the central station is located in the capital Victoria and the lines connect all points of the island;
  3. take a taxi even if the transfers are not super cheap.

Tip: if you want to take a day tour of the island, because you may not have much time available, you can take a private excursion.

Praslin Island

To get around the island of Praslin (10 km long and 3.7 km wide) which brings together about 8,500 people you can:

  1. rent a car, to be able to get to the most hidden beaches such as Anse Lazio, the fourth most beautiful beach in the world;
  2. move by bus, there are many times of their passage but be careful because not everyone arrives everywhere;
  3. take a taxi as I have already told you to do on the island of Mahé.

La Digue Island

To get around this magnificent island you just need to know how to pedal and then rent a bicycle for the entire period of your stay, beautiful roads and a paradisiacal view that you will find in front of your eyes. If unfortunately you are not able to ride a bicycle then you just have to take an ox-cart (the bus where the ox pulls the cart), so it’s better to go on foot because you will certainly go faster.

If your dream has always been to organize a trip to the Seychelles, Laura Lorenzino will be able to better organize your holidays through a private call I will give you all the information on how to move

Many greetings with …
